Applications for Aggregate
Aggregate is used in a variety of applications, from the manufacturing of concrete to use as a base in roadway construction. Aggregate is used in construction as a base, to protect pipes, to provide drainage, or to fill a void or provide a hard surface.
- Aggregate for Drainage – As water percolates through aggregate faster than the surrounding soil, aggregate is often used to drain an area of surface water, such as along the sides of roads.
- Aggregate for Surfaces – A surface layer of aggregate can provide a more stable, solid surface for unpaved roads or parking lots. This prevents automobiles from sinking into the soil during rain or wet weather.
- Aggregate as a base – Aggregate is ideally suited to provide a stable base for driveways, sidewalks, parking lots, and roads.
